Prediction: Bayern will struggle in Ukraine and fail to win away, possible a draw, making 'writers' to question Pep and his tactics while 'fans' will call Bayern overrated.

Then, in the return leg, Bayern will smash Shakhtar completely and the 'fans' and 'writers' will write the opposite.

This line-up will be cool on a tactical and current form point of view :

----Benatia------Boateng--------Alaba----
--------------------------------------------
---Rafinha----Schweinsteiger--------Bernat
--------------------------------------------
Robben----------Müller-------Götze -------
--------------------------------------------
--------------Lewandowski----------------

In one second :

---------------------Neuer--------------------
-----------------------------------------------
Rafinha-----Benatia-------Boateng-----Bernat
-----------------------------------------------
-------Schweinsteiger-------Alaba-----------
-----------------------------------------------
Robben------------Müller--------------Götze
-----------------------------------------------
-----------------Lewandowski----------------

There aren't stupid questions, only stupid people.

If Ribéry could play it would be sweet... We really need him, we have no real backup for him atm :/

What the coaches had to say ahead of the game:

Quote:
Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar coach
We will be heroes if we beat Bayern and qualify for the next stage. Our last competitive game was ten weeks ago, and you all know about the conditions we have been working under this season. Almost everyone will tell you that Bayern are going through, especially after their 8-0 win in the last league match.

Bayern have played four competitive games this year, so their coach knows very well the potential of his players, while we have had friendlies and we will only see the players' condition tomorrow. "Bayern are clear favourites. They are one of the best teams in the world with a great coach who loves his work very much".

In the last two seasons he has changed Bayern and made them play like a Latin side. He is creating a unique team, but there are always chances in a two-legged tie. Sometimes logic doesn't apply in football. We have 13 Brazilians in the squad who are dreaming of exacting revenge against Bayern's six world champions.

It's a pity we are without [midfielder] Taras Stepanenko – he is a very important player for us. I hope whoever replaces him will be able to carry out his duties on the pitch. Bernard? He's not [such] a big loss for us as he has never been a [regular] starter for Shakhtar. We have Taison and Marlos who can play on the left wing.

Josep Guardiola, Bayern coach

I respect Shakhtar and Mircea Lucescu a lot. He is a very clever coach who has put together one of the best teams in Europe. I played against Shakhtar five times with Barcelona and although we had a really amazing squad it was always difficult. You may remember the UEFA Super Cup when we scored only in extra time. Once we were defeated at home by Shakhtar.

I told my players: 'If you beat Shakhtar then you can be very proud because they really are one of the top teams.' They have a great striker in Luiz Adriano. Douglas Costa, Marlos, Taison, Alex Teixeira are all great players. And I have special words for their captain Darijo Srna. I have watched him a lot for club and country. He would be a talisman in any team in the world.

If we play below our level we can be knocked out by Shakhtar. We are in good form and a good mood. Franck Ribéry is ready to play while Xabi Alonso trained well yesterday and today, but his fitness is still open to question. We'll make a decision tomorrow afternoon. Hopes for the final? We have a long way to go yet. Tomorrow's game is the first step.

Bild lineup prediction:

Lineup is good but I'd want Lewa in for Xabi, I've yet to see a good Bayern performance when both Xabi and Basti are starting in midfield, so the same lineup as vs HSH (except with Boa replacing Bads).

War seriously scares me... My biggest fear doesn't have anything to do with the result of this match. I just want our boys to be safe going there and come back safe from there. I know it's a safer location, but it's still Ukraine and Bayern is a massive club. They attract attention for any reason. It will be a sigh of relief to see them back in Germany.

Oh, and I hope they win, of course.

Excited!!! I will sing DIE CHAMPIOOOOONSSSS today. CL IS BACK!

I'm a bit worried, Shaktar has an awesome team. Hopefully we won't start with both Xabi and Schweini on the midfield.
No Lewandowski?

If Ribéry is ready to play I'm less worried. Ribéry on the left side and Javi + Thiago comeback is everything we need. And Lahm of course.

MATCH STATS

This is the first ever competitive meeting between Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayern Munich.

Shakhtar have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League for the third time after 2010/11 and 2012/13.

Shakhtar won only two games in this season’s group stages, both against BATE Borisov. Also 12 of their 15 goals came against the team from Belarus.

All four goals conceded by Shakhtar in this season’s Champions League have come from the 68th minute onwards.

Bayern Munich have only won one of their last five Champions League knockout games (D2 L2).

Bayern Munich’s last two Champions League games away from home have produced 13 goals (7-1 v Roma, 2-3 v Manchester City).

Luiz Adriano has scored nine goals from only 10 shots on target in the Champions League this season. Eight of his nine goals have come against BATE Borisov.

If he plays, it will be Xabi Alonso’s 100th Champions League game.

So Shaktar are only looking good thanks to BATE?
